The Vilnia river, also affectionately called Vilnelė, is known for its lively and somewhat challenging character, offering a unique paddling experience right through parts of Vilnius. Often described as having traits of a mountain river despite its urban setting, it flows relatively quickly and features numerous twists and turns.

Paddlers navigate through scenic areas, including the Pavilniai Regional Park, passing notable landmarks like the impressive Pūčkorių outcrop and the picturesque Belmontas park. The route is characterized by natural obstacles such as fallen trees, rocks, and occasional small rapids, requiring attention and active maneuvering from kayakers.

The river’s banks are often steep and forested, providing a feeling of being immersed in nature even while close to the city. The journey typically culminates near the heart of Vilnius Old Town, where the Vilnia flows into the Neris river, close to Gediminas’ Tower and the Hill of Three Crosses.

Due to its faster current and obstacles, the Vilnia is generally recommended for those with some paddling experience or adventurous beginners seeking excitement, rather than a completely calm and effortless float. It offers a distinct combination of natural beauty and active recreation within the capital city.
